After departing from New York City in the late 1990's, Peter Mayer purchased the former studio building of Alexander Helwig Wyant at the Pakatakan Artist Colony, Arkville, New York. Nearby Arkville was the site of a Tuscarora Village, called "Pakatakan," which translates to "The place where the streams come together." It is described to be "a little above the present village of Maragaretville" and "near the junction of the Bush-kill with the East Branch." [1] The Pakatakan Artist Colony was founded in 1887 by painter J. Francis Murphy, and is one of the earliest artist colonies in the Americas. Mayer is the last artist to be based from Pakatakan. Mayer maintains a studio in Hamlet of Roxbury, New York. The studio is on the ground floor of the former Masonic lodge that is now occupied by WIOX, Roxbury—Roxbury Community Radio—the 501(c)3, FM band radio station, broadcasting in the region at 91.3FM. The Roxbury studio is located on Bridge Steet at 2335 County Highway 41, Roxbury, New York 12474, and is open to the public by appointment. To make an appointment to visit the Bridge Street studio, please contact petermayerstudio@gmail.com. Mayer hosts the radio show "Graffiti Dog Super Art Now" every Monday and Tuesday, from 10PM - midnight, on WIOX. ———
